Gehlot proposes special package for Gujjars

In view of legal wranglings over quota to four communities including Gujjars, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Tuesday announced a special package of incentives for students belonging to these groups to help them get through competitive exams.

In a budgetary provision of Rs 25 crore for the FY 2010-2011, Gehlot proposed a post-matric scholarship to students of Gujjar, Banjara, Gardiyaluhar and Rebari communities extending up to higher education.

For competitive examinations of the Rajasthan State and Subordinate Services and All Indian Civil Services, the state would provide a financial assistance from Rs 50,000 to Rs one lakh to youths seeking jobs, Gehlot said.

Six new ITIs and 12 hostels would be created for these communities in the areas dominated by their members, he said, adding a corpus of Rs 22 crore would also be available for them with the Devnarayan Board.

The Rajasthan High Court had in October last year stayed the five per cent job and educational quota provided to these communities under special OBC category in the state.

To curb inflation and price rise, Gehlot announced setting up of "State Food and Civil Supply Corporation" with a corpus fund of Rs 50 crores.

BPL families would be getting wheat at Rs 2 per kg instead Rs. 4.70 through Public Distribution System (PDS), and the state would provide Rs 170 cr for the scheme.

For strengthening economy and industry, Gehlot said a "Rajasthan Infrastructure Development Act" would be brought in the new FY, and a multi-purpose freight corridor would be set up between Delhi and Mumbai via Rajasthan.
